Inasmuch House – A Safe Haven
Our client advocates provide practical guidance, referrals, and emotional support in a confidential and secure environment.
We are here to help by:
Offering a safe and supportive space to share your feelings and emotions
Working with you to develop a personalized safety plan to minimize risk
Connecting you to essential support services within our programs and across the community
Inasmuch House is a safe haven for women and non-binary individuals—with or without children—who are experiencing abuse and/or homelessness.
Here, survivors of violence and abuse find more than just shelter—they find compassion, safety, and hope. Our mission is not only to provide emergency housing, but also to empower women, non-binary people, and children to rebuild their lives, restore their confidence, and move forward toward healthy independence.
Our Services
At Inasmuch House, we provide free, confidential, and compassionate support for women, non-binary people, and their children who are experiencing abuse and/or homelessness.
Safe Shelter
We offer safe, free accommodation where individuals and families can leave abusive situations and begin rebuilding their lives. While staying at Inasmuch House, residents have access to:
Nutritious meals, clothing, and laundry facilities
Personal supports to meet daily needs
Guidance from a Residential Client Advocate who assists with goal-setting, accessing resources, and connecting to community agencies
Residential Client Advocates
Our advocates provide emotional support, practical advice, and referrals to community services, ensuring every client feels heard and supported.
Child & Youth Support
Our trained Child and Youth Workers provide:
Child-minding for caregivers when needed
Engaging and supportive programming for children and youth
Emotional support for young people processing experiences of violence
Legal Advocacy
Our Legal Advocate helps both residential and outreach clients navigate the complexities of family, criminal, and immigration law. While not a lawyer or paralegal, they provide:
Legal education and information
Advocacy and support with legal processes
Interpretation services for those unfamiliar with Canadian legal systems
Accompaniment to legal appointments
Appointments are available in person, virtually, by phone, or email.
Transitional Housing Support
Our Transitional Housing Support Workers help clients secure safe, affordable housing by:
Assisting with safety planning and risk management
Supporting applications for social housing and financial assistance
Connecting clients with community resources
This service is available to both residents and outreach clients, with flexible appointment options.
Groups & One-to-One Support
We offer LEAF (Learning Effective Anti-Violence in Families) programming, available virtually and in person. This includes:
Safe spaces for children and youth (ages 4–16) who have witnessed violence to share their experiences
Abuse education and awareness programs
Emotional support and early intervention strategies
Programming for mothers/caregivers, covering topics such as safety planning, anger management, and recognizing abuse
Text Inasmuch
In addition to our 24-hour crisis line, Text Inasmuch provides secure, text- and web-based support for women and non-binary people in Hamilton experiencing abuse or homelessness. Our client advocates are available to provide emotional support, practical advice, and referrals.

Our Philosophy
At Inasmuch House, we operate from an Intersectional Feminist Framework, centering the safety and well-being of women, non-binary people, and children.
Our priority is to create a physically and emotionally safe environment where survivors of violence, abuse, and homelessness feel respected, supported, and empowered.
We take a trauma-informed approach, recognizing the whole person and the unique circumstances each individual brings.
We live out this philosophy through:
