Land Acknowledgement
Sheltr Canada acknowledges that the land on which we live and work is part of the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples who have cared for this land since time immemorial. We honour the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which reminds us of our collective responsibility to share and protect the land and its resources in peace and friendship.
We also recognize the continuing impacts of colonization, including the harmful legacy of the Residential School System, and the role that faith-based institutions played in this history.
At Sheltr Canada, we are committed to creating safe, welcoming, and accessible spaces for Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. We stand in solidarity with the call for justice for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people, as well as for Indigenous, Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Queer individuals across Turtle Island.
We affirm our support for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and we are dedicated to weaving these principles into our mission of ending homelessness and poverty across Canada.
